Ingredients
  

For the Treats
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 10 ounces mini marshmallows (1 bag), plus a handful extra for extra gooeyness
  • 1 pinch salt to enhance flavor
  • 1 Green or orange gel food coloring optional, for monster color
For Decoration
  • as needed candy eyeballs the more mismatched, the better
  • as needed mini marshmallows or candy corn for horns or teeth
  • as needed chocolate chips or mini M and Ms for details
  • as needed melted chocolate or candy melts to use as glue
  • as needed sprinkles (black, purple, or neon mixes) for decoration

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Line a 9x13 pan with parchment paper and lightly spray it.
  2. Melt butter in a big pot on low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until smooth.
  3. Add a pinch of salt and any gel food coloring if desired. Start with a small amount.
  4. Stir in Rice Krispies cereal until thoroughly coated.
  5. Press the mixture into the prepared pan using buttered hands or a spatula.
  6. Let cool for 20 to 30 minutes, then cut into shapes or pull off pieces to form monster figures.
Decorating
  1. Melt a small bowl of chocolate chips in the microwave, stirring every 20 seconds.
  2. Use melted chocolate as glue to attach candy eyeballs to the treats.
  3. Create mouths and teeth using chocolate and candy corn or mini marshmallows.
  4. Add horns or hair with mini marshmallows, sprinkles, or pretzel pieces.

Notes

To maintain soft treats, use low heat, avoid pressing too firmly in the pan, and store in an airtight container at room temperature for best results. Variations include chocolate, peanut butter, sprinkles, and sour candy monsters.
