Main Ingredients
  • 4-6 pieces Cube steak Use thicker pieces for best results.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust based on preference.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder Optional, but recommended.
  • 1 packet Onion soup mix
  • 1 can Cream of mushroom soup Can substitute with cream of chicken.
  • 1-1.5 cups Beef broth Add extra if slow cooker runs hot.
  • 1 medium Onion, sliced Optional but adds flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch For slurry if thicker gravy is preferred.
  • 1 tablespoon Cold water For cornstarch slurry.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Season cube steaks with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Optional: Brown the cube steaks in a hot skillet for about 1 minute per side for deeper flavor.
  3. Mix the cream soup, onion soup mix, and beef broth in a bowl until smooth to create the gravy base.
  4. Place sliced onion at the bottom of the slow cooker, if using. Lay the seasoned cube steak on top.
  5. Pour the gravy mixture over the steak in the slow cooker.
Cooking
  1. Cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours or HIGH for 3 to 4 hours.
  2. If thicker gravy is preferred, stir in the cornstarch slurry during the last 20 to 30 minutes while cooking on HIGH.

Notes

Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, and mop up the gravy with bread for best experience. Store leftovers with extra gravy.
