  • 2 cans Cinnamon rolls Store-bought tube rolls or leftover homemade rolls.
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Milk or half and half Use half and half for a richer bite.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 2 tsp Ground cinnamon More cinnamon added for flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Maple syrup Optional, can add to custard.
Toppings
  • 1/2 cup Chopped nuts Pecans or walnuts for additional crunch.
  • to taste Icing Drizzle over warm casserole before serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut cinnamon rolls into pieces and place them in a greased 9x13 baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, salt, ground cinnamon, and maple syrup (if using).
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the cinnamon rolls, pressing down gently to ensure they soak up the custard.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until puffed and golden on top.
  2. If the top browns too quickly, lightly cover with foil for the last few minutes.
  3. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
  4. Drizzle icing over the warm casserole before serving.

Notes

For best results, use slightly stale cinnamon rolls. Stale bread enhances texture. If pre-preparing, refrigerate overnight and bake in the morning.
