Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef, ideally 80/20 For flavor and juiciness.
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder Optional, for extra flavor.
  • 8 slices American cheese For classic melt, or use cheddar for sharper flavor.
  • 12 pieces Hawaiian rolls, sliced as one slab Best for sliders.
  • 1 small onion, diced small Or cooked down for mellower flavor.
  • 1/2 cup pickles, sliced Optional but recommended.
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted For topping.
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds or everything seasoning Optional, for garnish.

Preparation
  1. Cook the ground beef in a skillet and season while it's cooking. Drain off excess grease if needed.
  2. Spread the cooked beef evenly across the bottom slab of the Hawaiian rolls.
  3. Layer American cheese on top of the beef, covering it completely.
  4. Add pickles and/or onions if desired.
  5. Place the top slab of rolls on.
Baking
  1. Brush melted butter across the tops of the rolls and sprinkle sesame seeds or everything seasoning if using.
  2. Bake until the cheese is melted and the tops look golden, approximately 20 minutes.
  3. Let rest for a couple of minutes before slicing to allow the cheese to settle.

Notes

Make sure to use soft rolls for best results. Store leftovers wrapped tightly in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven to maintain crispness.
