Ingredients

For the Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Butter For richness.
  • 2-3 cloves Minced Garlic The whole point of the sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons Flour To gently thicken the sauce.
  • 1 cup Milk Whole milk is preferred but 2% can work.
  • 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan For that salty, cheesy bite.
  • to taste Salt Add according to preference.
  • to taste Black pepper Add according to preference.
  • a pinch Italian seasoning or crushed red pepper Optional for added flavor.

Method

Making the Sauce
  1. In a small saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat.
  2. Add 2 to 3 cloves of minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, just until it smells amazing. Do not let it brown.
  3. Whisk in 2 tablespoons flour and cook for 30 to 60 seconds to avoid a raw taste.
  4. Slowly pour in 1 cup milk while whisking to keep it smooth.
  5. Let it gently bubble for 2 to 4 minutes while whisking often until it coats a spoon.
  6. Turn off the heat and stir in 1/2 cup grated Parmesan and add salt and pepper to taste.

Notes

If the sauce thickens too much, add a tablespoon of milk to loosen it. If it's too thin, let it simmer for another minute. Store in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
