Preparation
- Blend the watermelon. Toss the watermelon cubes into a blender and blend until totally smooth.
- Strain if you desire a smoother drink. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher.
- Stir in the fresh lemon juice and honey or simple syrup. Adjust sweetness and tartness to your preference.
- Release the basil aroma by clapping the leaves between your hands, then add them to the pitcher and stir. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Just before serving, gently stir in chilled sparkling water to maintain fizz.
- Serve in glasses filled with ice, garnished with basil or lemon slices.
Notes
Chill all components to avoid ice melting too quickly. Sweeten in stages to suit your taste. Avoid overdoing basil to prevent overpowering the drink.
