Preparation
- Bake the cake according to the package instructions and let cool in a greased 9 by 13 pan for about 15 to 20 minutes.
- Use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the cake, about 1 inch apart.
- In a bowl, whisk the gelatin with the boiling water until fully dissolved, then stir in the cold water. Let it sit to cool slightly.
- Slowly pour the gelatin mixture over the cake, allowing it to soak into the holes.
- Cover the pan and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, preferably overnight.
Finishing Touches
- Spread the whipped topping over the chilled cake. If desired, mix a little food coloring into the topping.
- Decorate with heart sprinkles, sliced strawberries, or chocolate curls.
Notes
For clean slices, use a sharp knife and wipe it off between cuts. The cake can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days.
