Ingredients

For the Cookie Dough
  • 1 cup Butter, softened Do not melt
  • 3/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup Brown sugar Packed
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract Use real if possible
  • 2 1/4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Chocolate chips, semi-sweet Save some to press on top of the dough balls
Optional Nuts
  • 1 cup Chopped walnuts, pecans, almonds, or hazelnuts Lightly toast for better flavor

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter with both sugars until fluffy and lighter in color (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
  4. Add flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips and set aside a small handful to top each dough ball.
  6. Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them to allow for spreading.
Baking
  1. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until edges are set and centers look soft.
  2. Let cookies sit on baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool.

Notes

Chill the dough for 30 minutes for thicker cookies. Do not overbake; cookies should be slightly underdone in the center.
