Ingredients

For the tea
  • 4 bags Black tea bags Use family size for a stronger flavor.
  • 8 cups Water Used to brew the tea.
  • 1 cup Sugar Can substitute with honey if preferred.
For the strawberry syrup
  • 1 cup Strawberries Fresh or frozen strawberries work well.
  • 1 cup Water Used to help simmer the strawberries.
  • 1/2 cup Sugar Adjust the sweetness as desired.
Optional garnishes
  • 1 cup Lemon slices For added flavor and garnish.
  • 1/2 cup Fresh mint Optional for extra freshness and aroma.
  • 1 cup Sliced strawberries For garnish in the pitcher.

Method

Preparation
  1. Bring water to a simmer, then turn off the heat and steep the tea bags for 8 to 10 minutes.
  2. Remove the tea bags and stir in sugar while the tea is still warm until dissolved.
  3. In a small pot, add strawberries with a little water and half a cup of sugar. Simmer until the berries soften and the liquid turns bright red.
  4. Mash the strawberries a bit with a fork. Strain if desired or leave some pulp for texture.
Mixing and chilling
  1. Pour the brewed tea into a pitcher, stir in the strawberry syrup, and top with cold water to taste if it is too strong.
  2. Refrigerate until cold or pour over a lot of ice.
  3. Optional: Add sliced strawberries and lemon wheels for garnish before serving.

Notes

Taste the tea before chilling and adjust sweetness or strawberry flavor as needed. Great for gatherings and makes a beautiful beverage to serve with snacks or meals.
