Ingredients

Nougat Base
  • 1 cup pureed strawberries Fresh or frozen strawberries blended into a smooth puree.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Regular white sugar.
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup Helps achieve the chewy texture.
  • 1/4 cup water For dissolving sugar.
  • 1 tablespoon salt A pinch of salt enhances the flavors.
Chocolate Coating
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Use a chocolate you enjoy eating plain.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a saucepan, combine pureed strawberries, sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Increase the heat and let the mixture boil until it reaches a soft ball stage (about 240°F or 115°C).
  3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before transferring to a mixing bowl. Allow the mixture to thicken.
Making the Bars
  1. Pour the cooled mixture into a square pan lined with parchment paper and let it set in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  2. Once set, cut the nougat into rectangular pieces.
Coating
  1. Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave or double boiler until smooth.
  2. Dip each nougat piece into the melted chocolate, ensuring it's fully coated. Let excess chocolate drip off.
  3. Lay the coated bars on a parchment-lined tray and allow the chocolate to harden.

Notes

These bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge, but they should be allowed to sit at room temp for a few minutes before serving for the best texture.
