  • 1.5 cups 1 and 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use fresh for best taste

  • 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup melted butter, cooled slightly
  • 3 large 3 large eggs Best at room temperature
  • 1 cup 1 cup evaporated milk (or whole milk) Creamy option
  • 2 teaspoons 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Method
 

Baking Instructions
  1. Heat your oven to 350 F.
  2. Place the pie crust in your pie dish and set it on a baking sheet.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together sugar, cocoa, flour (if using), and salt until evenly mixed.
  4. Add melted butter and whisk until thick and glossy.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, whisking until smooth.
  6. Pour in evaporated milk and vanilla, whisking until fully combined.
  7. Pour the filling into the crust.
  8. Bake for about 45 to 55 minutes. The edges should look set and the middle should have a gentle jiggle.
  9. Cool on the counter for at least 2 hours before slicing.

Notes

For a cozy touch, serve with whipped cream, toasted pecans, or chocolate shavings. Pairs well with coffee.
