  • 2 cups All-purpose flour Spoon into the measuring cup and leveled
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder For lift
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt To balance sweetness
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter Softened but not melted
  • 1 1/2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 1 large Egg Room temperature preferred
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract Use real vanilla for best flavor
  • 1/2 cup Sour cream or plain Greek yogurt Softness booster

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Mix in the egg and vanilla.
  5. Mix in the sour cream or Greek yogurt.
  6. Add the dry ingredients and mix just until you do not see flour anymore. Do not overmix.
Baking
  1. Scoop dough balls and gently flatten just a bit with your fingers.
  2. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. The centers should look set but not browned.
  3. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then move to a rack.

Notes

To keep cookies soft, store them in an airtight container after cooling completely. Add a slice of bread to the container for overnight softness.
