Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 slices Good bread (sourdough, ciabatta, or country loaf) Choose sturdy bread to withstand pressing.
  • 8 oz Smoked turkey (deli slices) Thicker slices feel extra hearty.
  • 1/2 cup Cranberry sauce Use whole berry for texture; jellied is fine.
  • 4 slices Cheese (brie, swiss, provolone, or cheddar) Choose according to preference.
  • 2 Tbsp Mayo or cream cheese For spreading inside the bread.
  • 2 Tbsp Butter or olive oil For the outer crispy layer.
  • 1 cup Greens (optional) Such as baby spinach or arugula.

Method

Preparation
  1. Build the sandwich by spreading mayo or cream cheese on one slice of bread and cranberry sauce on the other.
  2. Layer cheese, smoked turkey, and another slice of cheese. Close the sandwich.
  3. Butter the outside of both slices of bread.
Cooking
  1. Heat a skillet over medium to medium-low heat.
  2. Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for 3 to 5 minutes on each side, covering with a lid or pressing down with a heavy pan.
  3. Flip carefully when browned and the cheese is melted.
Finishing
  1. Let the sandwich rest for a minute before slicing.

Notes

Consider adding thin sliced apple or pear, mustard, pickled onions, or herbs for variations. Always tuck greens between layers to avoid sogginess.
