  • 6 pieces Bagels (mix of plain, everything, sesame, poppy, whole wheat)
For the spreads
  • 8 oz Cream cheese (plain plus one flavored option if desired) Consider chive, veggie, or lemon dill flavor.
For the toppings
  • 8 oz Smoked salmon (sliced lox style) Pre-sliced saves time.
  • 1 small Red onion (thinly sliced) Can soak in cold water to mellow the flavor.
  • 1 large Cucumber (thinly sliced or ribboned)
  • 1 cup Tomatoes (sliced, or cherry tomatoes halved)
  • 1 oz Capers Serve in a small bowl.
  • 1 piece Lemon (cut into wedges) For squeezing over the assembled bagels.
  • 1 handful Fresh dill (or chives) For garnish.
Optional extras
  • 1 piece Avocado (sliced) Optional.
  • 4 oz Radishes (thinly sliced) Optional.
  • 1 handful Arugula Optional.
  • 2 tablespoons Pickles (sliced) Optional.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Slice bagels in half and arrange them in one or two spots.
  2. Add cream cheese to a couple of bowls, ensuring one bowl is plain.
  3. Loosely fold the smoked salmon slices into ribbons for serving.
  4. Fill in with toppings: tuck cucumber slices next to the salmon, add tomatoes, and scatter capers in a small bowl.
  5. Add one or two surprise extras like honey or avocado.
  6. Finish with herbs and a sprinkle of salt and pepper.

Notes

Consider using different textures and keeping the board organized for an appealing presentation. Leftover salmon can be used in salads or wraps.
