- Toast the bagel until the edges get crisp, keeping the inside chewy.
- In a small bowl, mash half to one whole avocado with a squeeze of lemon juice and a pinch of salt and black pepper.
- Spread cream cheese on the toasted bagel to prevent sogginess.
- Spoon the mashed avocado on top of the cream cheese and smooth it out.
- Layer the smoked salmon, folding it for a fuller appearance.
- Add red onion, capers if using, a dash of black pepper, and fresh herbs on top.
Notes
For added crunch, include thinly sliced cucumber or radish. You can also make this bagel more filling by adding a poached or fried egg.
