Preparation
- Spray your slow cooker insert with non-stick spray to ease cleanup.
- Add chicken in a single layer and sprinkle with garlic powder, onion powder, and pepper.
- Add ham over the chicken, spread evenly. Top with Swiss cheese.
- In a bowl, mix the cream of chicken soup and sour cream, adding Dijon if using. Pour over the layers, spreading gently.
Cooking
- Cook on LOW for 3 to 5 hours until chicken is cooked through and easy to shred.
- Shred or cube the chicken right in the slow cooker and stir everything together.
- In a small bowl, melt butter and mix it with breadcrumbs or crushed crackers. Sprinkle over the top.
- If your slow cooker has a browning function, use it to brown the topping. If not, toast it in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For a little extra comfort, serve over egg noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes. You can swap out the ham for different meats or add vegetables like steamed broccoli.
