Slow Cooker BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders

Ingredients
  

Pork Preparation
  • 4 pounds Pork shoulder or pork butt (boneless) This cut turns shreddable and tender.
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce Use your favorite sauce, sweet and smoky is great.
  • 1 medium Onion, sliced Melts into the juices for savory sweetness.
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced Gives the pork a deeper flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder (optional) Add if you want some heat.
  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar (optional) If your BBQ sauce is not sweet.
  • 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar Helps balance the rich pork and sweet sauce.
  • 8 buns Slider buns Soft buns that can hold up to the filling.
  • to taste Optional toppings Coleslaw, pickles, sliced jalapenos, extra sauce, melted cheese.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Slice an onion and lay it in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Pat the pork dry with paper towels. Rub it all over with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and chili powder (if using).
  3. Mix BBQ sauce with a splash of apple cider vinegar and a little water or broth. Pour some over the onions and place the pork on top. Pour the rest over the pork.
Cooking
  1. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high for 5 to 6 hours.
  2. Once done, take the pork out and shred it with two forks. Stir the shredded pork back into the sauce, let it sit for 10 minutes.
Assembly
  1. Toast your buns if you have time. Add pulled pork, then toppings like pickles or slaw, and a little extra BBQ sauce.

Notes

Make ahead of time and store in the refrigerator. Slow Cooker BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders are great for leftovers, and can be frozen in portions with a bit of sauce.
