Ingredients
  

For the Pretzel Base
  • 3 cups Pretzels, crushed Use twists or sticks.
  • 6 tablespoons Butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar Adds a warm caramel-like flavor.
  • 1 pinch Salt Enhances flavor.
For the Chocolate Layer
  • 1 cup Chocolate, semi-sweet or milk, melted
For the Caramel Layer
  • 3/4 cup Caramel sauce Use store-bought thick caramel or homemade by melting soft caramels with cream.
  • to taste Flaky salt Sprinkle on top before the last chocolate layer.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Line an 8x8 inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. Crush the pretzels in a zip bag or with your hands until you have a mix of small bits and bigger pieces.
  3. In a bowl, stir together the crushed pretzels, melted butter, brown sugar, and pinches of salt until the mixture is lightly coated.
  4. Press the pretzel mixture firmly into the prepared pan to form the base.
Assembling the Bars
  1. Melt the chocolate and spread it evenly over the pressed pretzel layer.
  2. Chill the pan in the fridge for about 15 minutes until the chocolate firms up.
  3. Once firm, pour the caramel sauce over the chocolate layer, spreading it evenly.
  4. Sprinkle a layer of flaky salt on top of the caramel.
  5. Spread another layer of melted chocolate over the caramel and return the pan to the fridge.
  6. Allow to chill for at least 1 to 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
Slicing
  1. Remove the pan from the fridge and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
  2. Using a sharp knife warmed under hot water and wiped dry, slice the bars into pieces, wiping the knife clean after each cut.

Notes

These bars are meant to be flexible with layering, feel free to adjust the amount of caramel and salt to your liking. Consider adding toppings like chopped peanuts, toasted pecans, or crushed potato chips for a special twist.
