Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 1 box Ritz crackers Enough to cover your pan in one layer
  • 1 cup Butter Real butter, not margarine
  • 1 cup Brown sugar Light or dark both work
Topping Ingredients
  • 1 cup Chocolate chips Semi-sweet is classic, milk chocolate is sweeter
  • Optional toppings Chopped nuts, flaky salt, sprinkles, or crushed candy

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil and add parchment paper on top for easier cleanup.
  2. Lay out the Ritz crackers in a single layer, trying not to leave gaps.
Cooking
  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together over medium heat. Stir until smooth and combined, then let it gently bubble for about 2 to 3 minutes until thick and glossy.
  2. Carefully pour the hot mixture over the crackers, using a spatula to spread it so most crackers are coated.
  3. Bake for about 7 to 9 minutes, watching carefully for bubbly edges.
  4. Pull the pan out and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Let them sit for about 2 minutes to melt, then spread out into an even layer.
  5. Add any desired toppings and chill in the fridge until firm. Break into pieces with your hands.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 4 to 5 days, or in the fridge for 1 to 2 weeks. Freezing is also an option, thaw in the fridge.
