Cream cheese frosting ingredients
  • 8 oz Cream cheese Full fat and softened.
  • 4 cups Powdered sugar Sifted if desired for smooth frosting.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the oil, butter, and sugar, and beat until well blended.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add vanilla extract and mix.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix just until combined.
  6. Stir in the vinegar and purple gel coloring until the desired shade is reached.
Baking
  1. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting
  1. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth, then gradually add the powdered sugar until well combined and fluffy.
  2. Once the cake layers are cooled, frost the top of one layer, add the second layer, frost, and repeat until all layers are stacked. Frost the sides and top.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for the best result. Chill the frosted cake for about 30 minutes before slicing for cleaner cuts.
