Ingredients
  

For the Butterfly Pea Tea
  • 1 cup Butterfly pea flower (dried flowers or tea bags) Use more for a deeper color.
  • 2 cups Water Hot water for steeping.
For the Lemonade
  • 1 cup Fresh lemon juice Bottled juice works in a pinch, but fresh tastes brighter.
  • 4 cups Cold water Adjust according to taste.
  • 1/2 cup Sugar or honey Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • Ice Ice cubes for serving Serve over ice.
Optional Garnishes
  • 1 Mint leaves For garnish.
  • 1 slices Lemon slices For garnish.
  • To taste Sparkling water For a fizzy version.

Method
 

Brew the Tea
  1. Bring water to a boil and remove from heat.
  2. Add butterfly pea flowers and steep for 5 to 8 minutes.
  3. Strain the tea and sweeten while warm, then chill in the refrigerator.
Make the Lemonade
  1. In a pitcher, combine lemon juice, cold water, and sweetener.
  2. Taste and adjust the sweetness based on the lemons used.
Serve
  1. Fill a glass with ice.
  2. Pour in the chilled butterfly pea tea and slowly add the lemonade.
  3. Watch the color change from blue to purple.

Notes

For a fun serving experience, make a pitcher of tea and a separate pitcher of lemonade for guests to pour themselves. If the color is dull, steep the tea longer next time. If it's pink, the lemonade may be too acidic; try adjusting lemon juice.
