  • 1 can canned pineapple slices Fresh pineapple can be used, but pat it dry first.
For the caramel
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Monitor closely to prevent burning.
For serving
  • 1 cup whipped cream Classic topping option.
  • 1/2 cup toasted coconut flakes For an extra touch.
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts Optional topping.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven according to the cake mix instructions.
  2. Prepare the cake mix as directed, substituting pineapple juice for any water.
  3. Place the canned pineapple slices on the bottom of the greased cake pan.
  4. Pour the prepared cake batter over the pineapple slices.
Cooking
  1. In a saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium heat until it melts and turns golden brown.
  2. Once caramel is ready, drizzle over the cake batter before placing in the oven.
  3. Bake according to cake mix instructions or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
