Ingredients
  

Pasta and Protein
  • 12 ounces pasta (penne or rotini) Cook it just underdone.
  • 1 to 1.5 pounds steak (thin sliced) or ground beef Ground beef is budget-friendly and easier.
Vegetables
  • 1 tablespoon oil or butter For cooking vegetables.
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 each green bell pepper, sliced Red works too for a sweeter taste.
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced Optional but recommended.
  • 2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced
Sauce Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt Or a mix of salt and pepper.
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons flour For thickening the sauce.
Cheese Toppings
  • 6 to 8 ounces provolone, sliced or shredded Classic choice.
  • 1.5 to 2 cups mozzarella For a melty top.
  • Optional: cream cheese A few spoonfuls for extra creaminess.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375 F. Grease a baking dish.
  2. Boil pasta and drain it when it’s just barely tender.
  3. In a big skillet, cook the onion and peppers in oil or butter until they soften. Add mushrooms if using.
  4. Add garlic and cook for about 30 seconds to avoid burning.
  5. Add steak or ground beef. Cook until browned and done. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  6. To make a quick sauce, sprinkle flour over the meat and veggie mix, stir for a minute, then slowly pour in milk while stirring until it thickens.
  7. Turn off the heat and stir in provolone or cream cheese for added richness.
Baking
  1. Mix the cooked pasta into the meat and sauce mixture.
  2. Pour everything into the greased baking dish.
  3. Top with remaining provolone and mozzarella.
  4. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, then broil for 1 to 2 minutes until the cheese is browned.
  5. Let it sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra creaminess, consider adding cream cheese. You can also make this dish ahead by assembling it and refrigerating, adding time to the bake. This pasta bake is versatile; feel free to add more veggies or swap cheeses based on preference.
