Ingredients
  

Cabbage Patties
  • 1 head green cabbage Fresh green cabbage, sliced into thick rounds.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For drizzling on cabbage.
  • 1 teaspoon salt To season cabbage and meat.
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper To season cabbage and meat.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder To add flavor to the cabbage.
  • 1 pinch smoked paprika Optional spice for added flavor.
Burger Patties
  • 1 pound ground beef Use 85% lean for best flavor.
  • 1 small onion Minced, for flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce To enhance flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the cabbage into thick rounds, about 3/4 inch thick.
  3. Drizzle cabbage with olive oil and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
  4. In a bowl, mix ground beef with minced onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Form burger patties slightly larger than the cabbage rounds.
Cooking
  1. Bake the cabbage slices for 8 to 10 minutes until they soften.
  2. Nestle a patty on top of each cabbage slice and continue baking until the internal temperature of the patties reaches 160°F (70°C), usually 12 to 15 minutes.
  3. In the last 2 minutes, brush the patties with olive oil and, optionally, BBQ sauce.
Resting
  1. Let the burgers rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For flavor variations, try adding Dijon mustard to the beef mix or a garlic butter glaze towards the end of cooking. These burgers pair well with a variety of sauces and side dishes.
