Ingredients
  

For the cake
  • 1 box yellow cake mix (or white cake mix) Use what you have on hand.
  • 1 small box instant vanilla pudding mix Optional, but recommended for texture.
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup Orange Crush (or similar orange soda)
  • 1/2 cup neutral oil (vegetable or canola) Can substitute with melted butter for flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest Optional, for extra citrus flavor.
For the glaze
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 to 5 tablespoons orange soda Start small and add as needed.
  • a pinch salt Optional.
  • a tiny bit orange zest Optional.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a 9 by 13 pan well, especially the corners.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the cake mix, pudding mix, eggs, oil, and orange soda until smooth and fluffy. Do not overmix.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Check at 28 minutes.
  2. The cake is done when a toothpick comes out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs.
Glazing
  1. While the cake is warm, whisk powdered sugar with orange soda to achieve a pourable glaze.
  2. Poke the cake lightly with a fork and drizzle the glaze over the top.

Notes

The cake can be made ahead of time. It stays moist for days. It can also be frozen unfrosted. Pair with vanilla ice cream or fresh berries for the best experience.
