  • 4 pieces yellow onions, cut into thick wedges Use yellow onions for the best flavor.

  • 1 cube bouillon cube (optional) For added umami flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons butter (optional) For richness; optional.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cut yellow onions into thick wedges.
  2. In a pot, add the onion wedges, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Add water to the pot, enough to cover the onions.
  4. If desired, add garlic, bouillon cube, and butter.
Cooking
  1. Bring the pot to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Once boiling, lower the heat, cover with a lid and let it simmer for 15 to 20 minutes until the onions are tender.
Serving
  1. Serve warm, garnished with fresh herbs or parmesan if desired.

Notes

Onion boil can be customized with additional ingredients such as sausage or potatoes. Keep the lid on during cooking to enhance flavor. It can be stored in the fridge for up to three days.
