Ingredients

For the burgers
  • 1 lb Ground beef 80/20 ratio for best results
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese Add at the end for melting
For the vegetables
  • 8 oz Mushrooms, sliced Cremini recommended for flavor
  • 1 large Onion, sliced thin Use thin slices for even cooking
For seasoning
  • 2 tbsp Butter or olive oil Use for greasing the foil
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Optional but recommended for flavor
  • to taste Salt, pepper, garlic powder Essential for seasoning the beef

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your grill to medium heat or set the oven to 400°F (200°C). Tear off large sheets of heavy-duty foil.
Burger Assembly
  1. Shape burger patties about 3/4 inch thick for even cooking.
  2. Place sliced onions and mushrooms in the center of the foil, add butter or oil, and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Set the burger patty on top of the vegetables, season it, and add Worcestershire sauce if desired.
  4. Seal the foil packet tightly, leaving some room for heat circulation.
Cooking
  1. Grill for 12-16 minutes, flipping the packet halfway through, or bake for 18-22 minutes.
  2. Carefully open the foil, add Swiss cheese on top, close the foil, and let it melt for 1-2 minutes.

Notes

Avoid thick patties for even cooking. Adding thin sliced potatoes is an option, but they require longer cooking. You can prep packets ahead of time, keeping them in the fridge for up to 8 hours.
