Preparation
- Build the sandwiches by laying out your bread, adding cheese, then ham and/or turkey, then another slice of cheese, then topping with another slice of bread.
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, a splash of milk, salt, and pepper to make the egg dip.
Cooking
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add butter or a mix of butter and oil.
- Dip each sandwich quickly in the egg mixture, flipping to coat both sides, then place them in the hot pan.
- Cook until golden, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Lower the heat if the bread browns too quickly.
Serving
- Let sandwiches rest for a minute to allow the cheese to settle. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve with jam.
Notes
Tip: Do not overload the sandwich to prevent cheese leakage. It can also be baked at 425°F for a healthier option.
