Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 slices sturdy slices of white bread
  • 2 slices thin-sliced ham
  • 2 slices thick-cut turkey
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 large eggs for dipping
  • 2 tablespoons butter for frying
  • 1 tablespoon jam (raspberry or strawberry) for serving
  • 1 teaspoon powdered sugar for authentic serving (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Layer thin-sliced ham, thick-cut turkey, and Swiss cheese between two slices of sturdy white bread.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs to create an egg mixture.
  3. Dip the assembled sandwich into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are completely coated.
Cooking
  1. Melt butter in a skillet over low heat.
  2. Fry the sandwich in the skillet until the bread is golden and the cheese is gooey, about 5-7 minutes on each side.
  3. Optionally, sprinkle powdered sugar on top before serving.
Serving
  1. Serve the sandwich hot with a dollop of raspberry or strawberry preserves on the side for dunking.

Notes

You can also bake the sandwich if preferred, though it may not be as crispy. Variations include using different cheeses or meats. For a lighter option, use lean turkey or skip the powdered sugar.
