Ingredients

Cereal Base
  • 6 cups Cheerios Plain is the classic choice, Honey Nut can be used but reduces added sugar.
Flavoring
  • 1/2 cup Butter Real salted butter is recommended for best flavor.
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar For the donut coating feel.
  • 2 tablespoons Cinnamon Main flavor; use fresh for best results.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla (optional) For an added baked goods flavor.
  • 1 pinch Salt (optional) Especially if using unsalted butter.

Method

Preparation
  1. Mix together the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl to create the sugar coating.
  2. Melt the butter in a large skillet over low heat. If using, stir in the vanilla after the butter has melted.
  3. Pour the Cheerios into the pan and gently stir to coat them in the melted butter.
  4. Turn off the heat and gradually sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the Cheerios while stirring to ensure even coating.
  5. Spread the coated Cheerios onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and let cool for 5 to 10 minutes.
  6. For extra crunch, optionally toast in the oven at 300°F for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring halfway through.

Notes

Let the cereal cool completely before storing in an airtight container to maintain crunch. Best consumed within 3 to 5 days at room temperature. Can be made dairy-free by using a suitable butter alternative.
