Ingredients
  

Shrimp and Marinade
  • 1 pound fresh shrimp Use the freshest shrimp you can find.
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce Adjust based on spice preference.
  • 1 cup tomato juice or Clamato Clamato is preferred for authenticity.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • to taste salt and pepper
Fresh Vegetables
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup diced cucumber
  • 1/4 cup diced onion Choose red onion for a milder flavor.
  • 1/4 cup diced jalapeño Be careful if you're spicy-shy.
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 limes fresh lime juice The more, the merrier!

Method
 

Cooking the Shrimp
  1. Boil the shrimp in salted water until they turn bright pink, about 3-5 minutes. Do not overcook.
  2. Remove the shrimp from the water and let them cool.
Preparing the Cocktail
  1. Chop the tomatoes, cucumber, onion, jalapeño, and cilantro while the shrimp cool.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cooled shrimp and the chopped vegetables.
  3. Add lime juice, tomato juice (or Clamato), hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  4. Stir gently to combine all ingredients.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving for the best flavor.

Notes

For a fancier presentation, serve in cups, or add avocado slices on top. Store in a sealed container and keep cold for up to 2 days. Avoid freezing.
