  • 1 tsp Garlic powder Optional, for flavor enhancement.
  • 1/4 tsp Red pepper flakes If you like heat.
  • 2 tbsp Butter For toasting the bread, optional.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Warm marinara sauce in a saucepan and add Italian seasoning and garlic powder if desired.
  3. Add meatballs to the sauce and simmer for about 5 to 8 minutes, until hot.
  4. Split hoagie rolls and lay them in a 9x13 baking dish.
Assembly
  1. Spoon a little sauce into each roll, then tuck in the meatballs.
  2. Pour more sauce over the top and around the sides, but do not flood the bread.
  3. Cover everything with mozzarella and optionally add provolone or parmesan.
Baking
  1. Bake until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  2. Let it sit for 5 minutes before serving to scoop cleanly.

Notes

For best results, warm the sauce first and toast the rolls lightly. You can refrigerate the assembled dish earlier in the day, then bake it when ready.
