Method
 

Preparation
  1. Heat oven to 350°F and line a cupcake pan with liners.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy and lighter.
  4. Mix in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
  5. Pour in maple syrup and mix just until combined.
  6. Add dry ingredients in two parts, alternating with milk. Mix gently.
  7. Fill liners about two thirds full.
  8. Bake for 16 to 20 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool completely before frosting.
Frosting
  1. To make the brown butter frosting, melt butter over medium heat until golden brown.
  2. Let the browned butter cool until not hot, then mix with powdered sugar, salt, milk, and maple syrup.

Notes

Let cupcakes cool completely before frosting to prevent melting. You can freeze unfrosted cupcakes for up to 2 months.
