Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup ripe mango chunks (fresh or thawed frozen) Ensure ripe for best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 3 to 4 lemons) Fresh lemon juice is recommended.
  • 3 to 4 cups cold water (still or sparkling) Adjust according to desired strength.
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons sugar or honey Adjust to taste.
  • 1 pinch salt Enhances the mango flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder or tajin Start with small amount and adjust to taste.
  • Ice lots of ice For serving.
  • Optional lemon slices and mango slices for serving For garnishing.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Add mango, lemon juice, sugar or honey, salt, and 2 cups of water to your blender. Blend until smooth.
  2. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more sweetener if it is too sharp. If too thick, add more water.
  3. Add chili powder a tiny bit at a time, blending between additions, until desired heat level is reached.
  4. Fill a pitcher with ice and pour the mixture over it. Add remaining cold water to adjust the strength.
  5. Serve immediately. For a fancy touch, rub a lemon wedge around the rim of the glass and dip it in chili powder.

Notes

If mango is not ripe or flavorful, add a splash of orange juice or more sweetener to enhance the flavor. Can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to 2 days without ice or sparkling water.
