Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 package King's Hawaiian rolls (usually 12 rolls)
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg (for richness and structure)
  • 2 tbsp butter (melted, for brushing)
  • 1-2 tbsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1-2 tbsp lemon zest (optional)
  • 1-2 tbsp jam (optional)
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk (for drizzling)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven and line a baking dish.
  2. Place the rolls close together in the prepared dish.
  3. Gently press an indent into each roll to form small pockets.
  4. In a bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and egg until smooth.
  5. Spoon the cream cheese filling into each indent.
  6. Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter.
  7. Bake until the rolls are golden and the filling is set, about 25 minutes.
Glazing
  1. While the danishes cool, mix the powdered sugar with enough milk to create a drizzle.
  2. Zigzag the glaze over the tops of the cooled danishes.

Notes

For best results, soften cream cheese properly, make shallow indents, avoid overfilling, and bake until golden. You can customize the filling with different flavors like fruit swirls or chocolate chips.
