Preparation
- Brown the ground beef and Italian sausage in a wide pot until crispy bits form on the bottom.
- Add the diced onion, minced garlic, and diced carrots. Cook until soft.
- Stir in the tomato paste and let it darken slightly before deglazing with red wine or broth.
Cooking
- Add the hand-crushed canned tomatoes, salt, pepper, dried oregano, and a little water.
- Simmer gently for at least 45-60 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Taste and finish with a splash of milk and fresh basil.
Notes
This sauce improves with time and is perfect for leftovers. Ideal to pair with spaghetti, polenta, gnocchi, or even as a filling for baked potatoes.
