Preparation
- If the bread is stale, great. If not, spread the cubes on a baking sheet and toast them at 300°F for about 15 to 25 minutes, stirring once or twice.
- Melt the butter in a big skillet and cook the onion and celery until soft, about 8 to 10 minutes. Add garlic for the last minute.
- Turn off the heat and stir in the chopped herbs, plus a good pinch of salt and pepper.
- Dump the bread into a big bowl. Pour the buttery veggie mixture over it and toss.
- Mix the warm broth with the beaten eggs, then pour that over the bread slowly, tossing as you go.
- Butter a baking dish, add the stuffing, and cover with foil.
Cooking
- Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes covered, then uncover and bake 15 to 20 minutes more until the top is crisp and golden.
Notes
This stuffing is forgiving; add more broth for moisture or bake uncovered longer for more crunch. It can be prepped ahead of time and is perfect for pairing with turkey, chicken, or holiday spreads.
