Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup All purpose flour Spoon flour into the measuring cup to avoid packing.
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • ¾ cup Unsweetened cocoa powder Hershey's or any good cocoa powder.
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • tsp Baking soda
  • 1 tsp Salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Milk Can swap with buttermilk for tenderness.
  • ½ cup Oil Helps keep the cake moist.
  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Boiling water Hot coffee can be used instead for deeper flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking pans by greasing and lining the bottoms with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  4. Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is thin and well combined, resembling chocolate soup.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.

Notes

For a fun frosting, classic chocolate buttercream or ganache is recommended, but simple powdered sugar works too. Make sure to let the cake cool completely before frosting to avoid a melty mess.
