Method
Preparation
- Mix warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in flour, salt, and olive oil. Add garlic powder or Italian seasoning if desired. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and stretchy. Place it in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled, typically 45 to 60 minutes.
Shaping
- Once risen, divide the dough into pieces and roll each piece into a finger shape. Add knuckles with pinches and light cuts.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the breadsticks for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden.
- Once baked, brush with melted butter and sprinkle with extra garlic powder.
- Press an almond into the tip of each finger before baking for the fingernails.
Notes
For a creepy effect, add a tiny dab of marinara at the base of the almond nail to look like ‘blood.’ If you need nut-free options, consider pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, or small pretzel pieces instead.
