Ingredients

For the Dirt Cake
  • 1 package chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed Crushed into fine crumbs
  • 1 box instant pudding mix Choose chocolate or vanilla
  • Cold milk, as required Cold milk Follow pudding box instructions
  • 1 tub whipped topping, thawed
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened Leave out for 30-45 minutes to soften
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup gummy worms Use for decoration
  • Optional candy pumpkins, candy eyeballs, or Halloween sprinkles For additional decoration

Method

Preparation
  1. Crush the cookies using a zip bag and a rolling pin, or in a food processor, to create fine crumbs that resemble dirt.
  2. Whisk the pudding mix with the cold milk until it thickens, then let it sit for a couple of minutes.
  3. Beat the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar until smooth. Fold in the whipped topping and then the prepared pudding to create a fluffy filling.
  4. In a trifle bowl or a 9x13 dish, start layering with cookie crumbs, followed by the creamy filling. Repeat layers, ending with a thick layer of cookie crumbs on top.
  5. Decorate the top with gummy worms, pushing them in to look like they are crawling out of the dirt.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

Cover tightly and refrigerate. Best consumed within 2-3 days. Do not freeze once assembled due to texture changes.
