Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 large large flour tortillas, burrito size
  • 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey Choose your preferred meat.
  • 1 packet taco seasoning Store bought or homemade.
  • 0.5 cup water For the seasoning, if needed.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese A mix of cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Mexican blend works great.
  • 1 cup cooked rice Plain or seasoned.
  • 1 cup refried beans or black beans Optional, but adds creaminess.
  • 0.5 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup salsa or pico de gallo
  • 0.5 cup crushed tortilla chips or crunchy taco shells Optional, adds a fun crunch.
  • 2 tablespoons butter or oil For the pan.

Method

Preparation
  1. Cook the meat in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Add taco seasoning and a splash of water. Simmer until it thickens and coats the meat.
  3. Warm your rice and beans so they are not cold going into the tortilla.
Assembly
  1. Lay a tortilla flat. Add a thin layer of beans (if using), then rice, then seasoned meat.
  2. Add sour cream and salsa, then a handful of shredded cheese. Add crushed chips if desired.
  3. Fold in the sides, then roll it up tight like a burrito.
Cooking
  1. Sprinkle cheese directly onto a hot nonstick pan, then place the burrito seam side down on top of the melting cheese.
  2. Cook until the cheese turns golden and crispy, then carefully roll or flip to crisp other sides if desired.

Notes

For the best results, remember not to overfill the burrito and warm the tortillas before rolling. Let the burritos rest for a minute after cooking to avoid spilling the fillings.
