  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Adjust for less sweetness if desired.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature For smooth mixing.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour Spoon and level to prevent excess.
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Choose a good quality brand.
  • 1 pinch salt Balances the sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks Fold them in for melting pockets.
Optional add-ins
  • 1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped For nutty flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder Adds depth to the chocolate flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9-inch pie plate with the crust.
  2. Place the pie plate on a baking sheet for easier handling.
Mixing the Batter
  1. Melt the butter, then whisk in the granulated and brown sugars until glossy and smooth.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips carefully to maintain the fudgy texture.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared crust, smoothing the top.
  2. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until the edges are set and the center is slightly jiggly.
  3. If necessary, cover the edges with foil to prevent over-browning.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Allow the pie to cool for at least 20 to 30 minutes before slicing.
  2. Serve warm with ice cream, whipped cream, or your favorite toppings.
