Ingredients

For the deviled eggs
  • 6 large eggs Large eggs Hard boiled
  • 1/4 cup Mayonnaise Adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Yellow mustard Adjust to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt To taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon Pepper To taste
  • 1 teaspoon Pickle juice (optional) For added tang
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garlic powder (optional) To taste
For the mummy wrap and eyes
  • 1 cup Thin cheese strips Provolone or mozzarella, pulled into threads
  • 6 slices Black olives Sliced for the eyes

Method

Preparation
  1. Boil the eggs: Put eggs in a pot and cover with water by about an inch. Bring to a gentle boil, then turn off the heat, cover, and let them sit for 10 to 12 minutes. Drain and cool in cold water.
  2. Peel and slice: Peel the eggs, then slice them in half lengthwise. Pop the yolks into a bowl and set the whites on a plate.
  3. Make the filling: Mash yolks with mayonnaise and mustard until creamy. Add salt and pepper. If desired, add a tiny splash of pickle juice. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Assembly
  1. Fill the egg whites: Spoon the filling into the egg whites or use a zip-top bag to pipe it in.
  2. Add the mummy bandages: Lay thin cheese strips across the top in a crisscross pattern, leaving a gap for the eyes.
  3. Make the eyes: Place two tiny black olive slices in the gap to create the eyes. Use a dab of mayo to help them stick if necessary.

Notes

For a spicy version, add chopped pickled jalapenos or hot sauce to the yolk mix. For a 'creepy' version, sprinkle black pepper around the eyes.
