Preparation
- Wash the apples well. Cut into quarters, removing cores and bruised spots. Skins can be left on.
Cooking
- Load the slow cooker with apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir well.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours or HIGH for 4 to 5 hours.
- When apples are super soft, mash with a spoon or potato masher. Use an immersion blender for a smoother texture if desired.
- Remove the lid and cook on LOW for an additional 1 to 2 hours until thick and spreadable.
- Let the apple butter cool before transferring it to jars.
Notes
Store in the fridge for 2 to 3 weeks or freeze for longer storage. Can be served on toast, pancakes, yogurt, or as a filling for sandwiches.
