Ingredients
  

Crostini Base
  • 1 loaf Baguette or ciabatta Day-old bread works best.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil A good quality olive oil enhances flavor.
  • Salt and black pepper To taste.
  • 1 clove Garlic Optional, for rubbing on toasted bread.
Crostini Toppings
  • 1 cup Chopped tomatoes For tomato basil topping.
  • 1/4 cup Fresh basil For tomato basil topping.
  • 1 tablespoon Balsamic vinegar For tomato basil topping.
  • 1 cup Ricotta cheese For whipped ricotta and honey topping.
  • 2 tablespoons Honey For whipped ricotta topping.
  • 1/4 cup Walnuts Optional for texture in whipped ricotta topping.
  • 1 cup Goat cheese For goat cheese and fig jam topping.
  • 1/2 cup Fig jam For goat cheese topping.
  • 1/2 cup Smoked salmon For smoked salmon and cream cheese topping.
  • 1/4 cup Cream cheese For smoked salmon topping.
  • 1 cup Melon For prosciutto and melon topping.
  • 4 slices Prosciutto For prosciutto topping.
  • 1 cup Sauteed mushrooms For mushroom and garlic topping.
  • 1 tablespoon Butter For cooking mushrooms.
  • 1 cup Roasted red peppers For roasted red pepper and feta topping.
  • 1/2 cup Feta cheese For roasted red pepper topping.
  • 1 ripe avocado Avocado For avocado and chili flakes topping.
  • 1 tablespoon Lime juice For avocado topping.
  • 1 teaspoon Chili flakes For avocado topping.

Method
 

Crostini Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice the baguette on a slight angle, about half an inch thick.
  3. Lay slices on a baking sheet and brush lightly with olive oil on one side.
  4. Bake for 8 to 12 minutes, flipping once, until golden and crisp.
  5. Optionally, rub the top of each toast with a cut garlic clove while still warm.
Topping Assembly
  1. Set out bowls with each topping.
  2. Encourage guests to build their own crostini using the toppings provided.

Notes

Crostini can be prepared a few hours ahead and stored in a loosely covered container to maintain crunch. Avoid assembling crostini too early to prevent sogginess. For a fancy touch, consider using thick spreads like cream cheese or hummus as a barrier for juicy toppings.
