  • 1 to 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 1 small diced onion (optional) Adds flavor; can be omitted.
  • 2 cans cream of mushroom soup Can substitute with cream of chicken.
  • 1 cup sour cream Greek yogurt can also be used.
  • 2 to 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese Split between layers.
  • 1 bag frozen tater tots About 28 to 32 ounces.
  • Salt and pepper To taste.
  • Garlic powder A must-have seasoning.
Optional Add-Ins
  • Corn, peas, chopped green beans, or cooked crumbled bacon Customize based on preferences.

Preparation
  1. In a skillet, cook the ground beef with diced onion until it is no longer pink. Drain excess grease.
  2. Stir in salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika for extra flavor.
  3. In a bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and shredded cheddar. Add a splash of milk if necessary but do not overdo it.
  4. Spray the crock pot insert, then layer the ground beef, creamy mixture, and finally the frozen tater tots.
  5. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 5 hours. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking.
  6. For a crispier top, add more cheese and vent the lid for the last 20 minutes, or broil if the insert is oven-safe.

Notes
