Ingredients

Base
  • 2 cups raw or toasted pecans Toasted pecans have a deeper flavor.
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk Acts as the glue and provides sweetness.
  • 1 pinch salt Balances sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional) Adds warmth to the flavor.
Coating
  • 1 cup powdered sugar For rolling the balls.
  • 1/2 cup extra crushed pecans For rolling the balls.
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder Optional coating.
  • 1/4 cup shredded coconut Optional coating.
  • 1/4 cup sprinkles (optional) For decoration.

Method

Preparation
  1. Crush the pecans using a food processor or by placing them in a zip bag and rolling with a pin until fine with some texture.
  2. In a bowl, stir together the crushed pecans, sweetened condensed milk, salt, and vanilla until combined.
  3. Cover and refrigerate the mixture for 20 to 30 minutes to firm it up.
Rolling
  1. Scoop small portions of the chilled mixture and roll them into balls using your palms. If the mixture sticks, lightly butter your hands.
  2. Roll the formed balls in powdered sugar, crushed pecans, cocoa powder, or shredded coconut.
  3. Chill the finished balls again before serving to help them firm up further.

Notes

Toasting the pecans enhances the flavor. You can substitute walnuts or almonds for a different taste. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 5-7 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
