Ingredients
  

For the French Toast
  • 4 slices thick bread (brioche, Texas toast, or challah recommended) Allow bread to dry slightly if using sandwich bread.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk Use whole or almond milk based on preference.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Plus additional for coating.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
For Cinnamon Sugar Coating
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
For Cooking
  • 2 tablespoons butter For greasing the skillet.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cut bread slices into 3 to 4 sticks each.
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt.
Cooking
  1. Dip each stick quickly into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
  2. Preheat a buttered skillet over medium heat until butter bubbles gently.
  3. Place dipped sticks on the skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden and set.
  4. Immediately roll sticks in cinnamon sugar coating after removing from the skillet.

Notes

Avoid stacking fresh French toast sticks to maintain their crispiness. Keep them in a single layer on a baking sheet in a warm oven if cooking in batches.
