Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 package Saltine crackers Enough to cover your pan in one layer.
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter Can substitute with salted butter, skip any extra salt topping.
  • 1 cup Brown sugar Packed.
  • 2 cups Chocolate chips Semi-sweet or milk chocolate.
Optional Toppings
  • 1 Crushed candy canes For festive decoration.
  • 1 Chopped pecans Can substitute with chopped almonds or sprinkles.
  • 1 Flaky sea salt For finishing touch.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil, lightly buttering it if using foil.
  2. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet, ensuring there are no gaps.
Cooking
  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together over medium heat, stirring until combined. Bring it to a steady boil and cook for 3 minutes, stirring gently.
  2. Remove from heat and pour the hot toffee mixture over the crackers, spreading it quickly with a spatula.
  3. Bake for 5 minutes until bubbly and glossy.
  4. Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Wait a couple of minutes for them to melt, then spread into an even layer.
  5. Add any desired toppings immediately before the chocolate sets.
  6. Chill the toffee until fully firm, then break it into pieces or cut it into squares.

Notes

For best results, use a rimmed pan and ensure to boil the toffee mixture for the full 3 minutes. Let it sit before spreading chocolate and chill to achieve the perfect texture.
