Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil, lightly buttering it if using foil.
- Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet, ensuring there are no gaps.
Cooking
- In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together over medium heat, stirring until combined. Bring it to a steady boil and cook for 3 minutes, stirring gently.
- Remove from heat and pour the hot toffee mixture over the crackers, spreading it quickly with a spatula.
- Bake for 5 minutes until bubbly and glossy.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Wait a couple of minutes for them to melt, then spread into an even layer.
- Add any desired toppings immediately before the chocolate sets.
- Chill the toffee until fully firm, then break it into pieces or cut it into squares.
Notes
For best results, use a rimmed pan and ensure to boil the toffee mixture for the full 3 minutes. Let it sit before spreading chocolate and chill to achieve the perfect texture.
