Ingredients
  

Cake Base
  • 1 9x13 inch cake (vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, or spice) Use day-old cake for best results.
Binding
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup cream cheese frosting Alternatively, use chocolate frosting, whipped frosting, or a blend of cream cheese and jam.
Moisture Boosters
  • 1 splash heavy cream Can also use sour cream or simple syrup.
Coating
  • 1 cup candy melts White chocolate chips with neutral oil can also be used.
Decorations
  • as needed crushed candy canes, holiday sprinkles, shaved chocolate, or toasted coconut Use for topping the dipped cake balls.

Preparation
  1. Bake or repurpose your cake and cool completely.
  2. Crumble the cake in a bowl and add frosting to create a dough-like texture.
  3. Roll into 1 to 1.5 inch balls and chill for 30 to 60 minutes.
Dipping
  1. Melt the candy melts until smooth, adding oil if needed to maintain consistency.
  2. Dip each ball, allow excess to drip off, and decorate immediately.
  3. Set on parchment to cool and let them set at room temperature.

Notes

Make cake balls up to 3 days ahead, storing in the fridge. Freeze dipped balls for longer storage. For a marbled effect, swirl a second color before setting.
